About
Westcott Barton Westcott Barton is situated in its own secluded valley, with
beautifully laid out gardens and its own wood and stream. There has been a
homestead in this valley since Saxon times; it is even mentioned in the
Domesday Book and was the home of the Chichester family during the 17th
century. The family dominated this part of North Devon during its heyday of
trade when nearby Barnstaple was a major port.
The main farmhouse building is a Grade II listed Devon
longhouse; the décor is grand and yet comfortable and welcoming. Nestling
around the main house are several cottages which share this aura and offer a
variety of cosy accommodation. There is an orangery with a verandah which
overlooks the gardens – perfect for tea and scones or an evening aperitif.
Facing the house is a large barn that is regularly used for functions and
weddings and which boasts a dual level layout with a dance floor and bar.
There are relics from the farm’s working life including a water wheel and
threshing machine. Westcott Barton is a really magical place; you will feel as though you have stepped back
in time; once you have discovered it you will want to return
again and again!
